Life in the here and now. Completely without worries and doubts. Instead, full of carefreeness and joy. Every day, children take on a new role: sometimes they are adventurers. Sometimes superheroes. And sometimes they are true rock stars. With confidence instead of fear. With confidence in their eyes instead of sadness in their hearts. But what happens when we grow up and realise that we have lost that unique view of the little wonders around us? When that which is called life takes away the magic of our childhood? MALIK HARRIS asks himself precisely these questions in his new single ROCKSTARS (release date: 04.02.2022), which he performed so convincingly that Germany promptly voted the song into the final of the Eurovision Song Contest. Malik's new single has also entered the Top 20 in the airplay charts and is thrilling listeners across Germany.
YouNotUs now contribute the first official remix of the hit single and present a completely new version of the German ESC entry with their distinctive sound.
YouNotUs are one of the most relevant German dance acts of recent years. And that both commercially and artistically. Because "Please Tell Rosie", "Only Thing We Know", "Seventeen", "Narcotic" or "Your Favourite Song" - to name just a few songs from recent years - not only have hundreds of millions of streams, top three placements in the official German singles and / or airplay charts, gold and platinum awards on the clock: they also manage the feat of clearly bearing the YouNotUs signature - fresh, innovative productions with the depth and atmosphere of deep house, the catchiness of a pop song and the underground appeal of a driving club night - yet never sounding interchangeable.
My first album. ANONYMOUS COLONIST.
As an anonymous colonist leaving his first footsteps in a world new to him, I am releasing my first album, which I am incredibly proud of. With ANONYMOUS COLONIST I close my first big music chapter which taught me a lot. About ups and downs; about me, my goals, my fears, my friends, my enemies, my strengths and weaknesses – and about the volatility and fast pace of this crazy life.
ANONYMOUS COLONIST is kind of an incomplete path to self-discovery for me, which can be seen from the fact that every song sounds different because I wanted to try out everything. In doing so, I realized that all of that is just who I am: loud, quiet, fast, slow; sometimes fragile, sometimes strong and every day in search of the bigger picture, which I myself don’t yet know what it is. From the carefree confidence of an adventurer who aims to conquer the world in “Say the Name” to the light-heartedness of “Bangin’ On My Drum” or “Dance”, which makes us forget everything around us for a moment. From the endless urge for change and justice in “Time for Wonder” and “Faith” to the longed-for breakout from all doubts in “Welcome to the Rumble” to the beauty of the unknown in “Running through the Dark” and the confrontation with one’s own inner conflicts in “When We’ve Arrived”. From the realization of having found a home in a person in “Home” to the fear of losing this person again in “Crawling”. From the feeling of unexpectedly finding yourself again after being lost for a long time in “Like That Again” to the question of what happens when it’s all over in “Last Curtain”.
A dozen songs. The first twelve pieces of a puzzle that is far from being completed – since it has only just begun. I am so incredibly grateful to the people surrounding me for making all of this possible and for pushing me and my music so tirelessly. You know who you are. Without your support, what I’m doing every day might not be much more than a dream. THANK YOU.
But I am also grateful to myself and a little proud as well. I dared to jump into the deep end, follow my passion, give a shit about limits or norms, do my thing and work hard every day for all this. To give everything and never lose myself along the way. This is what this album stands for.
ANONYMOUS COLONIST.
I hope you enjoy my inner roller coaster ride as much as I enjoy letting you be a part of it. Thank you for your support and for listening to my music everywhere. Knowing that all these thoughts and words that pop up in my head and that I then put on paper make their way to you guys out there is the greatest thing for me.
This is just the beginning – and we’re just getting started. Hope you‘re ready.
